Taxes, taxes, taxes. That's all I hear from my republican friends and even some of my moderate friends. And all I keep hearing is that Obama will essentially rob of us our rightful wages and newborn babies and that McCain will supposedly keep the welfare riff raff from sneaking into our bank accounts at night and shitting all over the money they don't steal.
Buuuuut… here's the thing. The media, both the right and the left, have participated in the severe misrepresentation of both tax plans. McCain LIES, "my friends." And Obama is too busy fending off the stiff, I'm-qualified-to-be-the-leader-of-the-free-world-because-I-was-a-POW, Maverick McCain to focus on his own hard numbers.
So I couldn't help but drop my jaw when I found a completely straight forward analysis of each tax plan… down to the dollar. A kindergartner could read the chart that Parade's Intelligence Report published on October 12. Find your number, follow the chart over to the right, and see what Obama gives you versus what McCain gives you.
Thank you, Rebecca Davis O'Brien, for this timely chart.
And for the record, the Tax Policy Center, the resource for these numbers, "is a joint venture of the Urban Institute and Brookings Institution. The Center is made up of nationally recognized experts in tax, budget, and social policy who have served at the highest levels of government."
Read: The Tax Policy Center is made up of mostly white, mostly men, mostly wealthy people who will most definitely save money (and possibly even MAKE money) under the McCain Administration. These are their numbers... and they're still publishing it.
And if you're still confused about who represents change and who continues the Bush error… excuse me, I meant to say era… then read the chart again.
Seriously. Read it again.
And note that we're actually PAYING the wealthiest people in the world… in the world… more money.
And I have so much more to say on this but I'm out of time. I'll do my best to get a continued post up tomorrow…

Tax Plans: Obama versus McCain

Let us not forget that us peons are not actually paying the millionaires...they're just keeping their own money that they rightfully earned. Instead of being taxed at 40% they'll be taxed at 36% which is still a way higher rate than anyone else.
And those rich people own the businesses that employ countless peons. The more taxes they pay....the fewer jobs available.

(HI MEGUIRE!)
Unfortunately Meguire, in my opinion, your theory has several major flaws. aaaand I'll point them out:
a. "The Tax Policy Center is made up of mostly white, mostly men, mostly wealthy people who will most definitely save money (and possibly even MAKE money) under the McCain Administration." Your misuse of the word MAKE here is interesting - these people have already EARNED that money. So in actuality, they're SAVING some of their own money. Money they can invest in whatever aid organization they choose, domestic or international; money they can put towards the retirement they've been working for for 35 years; money they can use to boost our unbelievably failing economy, because Lord knows, the people on the lower end of the pay scale aren't going to be. Additionally, speaking corporately, what about the mid-size companies that, when presented with the $93,000 tax increase under Obama's plan, ship their low-level jobs overseas to cope with increased taxes?
b. "And if you're still confused … then read the chart again." Flat statements like these are one of the reasons the media has a hold of the American public. You MUST look beyond the numbers. Must go beyond saying, "well I'll save $1118 a year, YES!" Redistribution of wealth (read: welfare) is not the path to a healthy economy, unless you favor vast Socialism.
c. "And note that we're actually PAYING the wealthiest people in the world more money." Don't even think for a minute that you're paying them. In your words, "read the chart again." Your tax bracket would ALSO be saving money, Meguire. And I won't even MENTION that 47% of Americans, PAY ZERO FEDERAL INCOME TAXES (this is a fact, reported by our government and regularly discussed by both conservative and liberal think tanks). So really, under Obama's plan, your tax dollars will end up as "tax credits" (to these 47%) in the direct form of a check deposited into their bank accounts.
In my opinion, the citizens and politicians of this country have forgotten the meaning of the word responsibility. There is absolutely no problem in this country with spending; out of control spending is the problem. We need to realize that a taxing policy is not the answer. I'm not saying McCain is perfect, not at all. But I will say that he will provide Americans a chance to pursue their dreams to the fullest, and keep more of their hard earned paychecks.
AND I am done. Love you, Meguire. Lets get drinks, we'll battle it out, head to head. ;)
